yoga
Yoga permeates everything we do. It is a lifelong journey and we are continuously learning and then falling back into ways of being that we thought we had outgrown, only to discover afresh the lessons that move us forwards. We aim to extend our practice beyond the mat and to use these lessons and observations to bring into being a more holistic sense of self in our daily life.
We each bring to our relationship over ten years of yoga practice. Roger came to Yoga after a serious illness and was inspired to share his knowledge because of the very real benefits he experienced. After practicing yoga as a child Hannah was drawn back to it in adult life, initially for it's relaxing, stress relieving benefits. Now, after many years of practice, the wider effects and subtle influences of a deeper yoga practice have settled in our consciousness and neither of us can imagine life without it.
Roger has been teaching for 11 years. He took an intensive Kundalini teacher training course in an Ashram in Nepal in 1998, after which he studied for the BWY teaching diploma. Roger's style of yoga is strong and evenly paced with an emphasis on allowing the body and mind to soften in a rejuvenating practise. He believes strongly in the benefits of internal cleansing to maximise the effects of other yoga practises in daily life.
Hannah took the British Wheel foundation course in 1999 and then went on to do teacher training with the Devon School of Yoga, drawn by the energy of the school, it's holistic approach and emphasis on the Kriyas. Hannah has an unhurried and peaceful approach to teaching yoga. Her distinctive style allows time for the student to fully unite breath with posture work and at the same time explore in more detail the subtle changes taking place within. Relaxed and calming in her interaction with others, she enables the student to discover both the feminine and masculine characteristics of asana work understanding that sometimes the male ego will often seek to achieve geometry over unity. Hannah's classes maintain a tranquil atmosphere and with her encouragement of presence, combined with a blend of asana, pranayama and kriyas one is able to enjoy what can be described as a sensual and holistic experience during the yoga practice.
We now both practice a holistic form of Yoga, eclectic in style and content. The Yoga practice on the yoga days will have a combination of asana, both slow and dynamic, pranayama (breath work), meditation, and kriyas (cleansing exercises). We have recently been playing with Partner Yoga and exploring the benefits of combining our energy in our practice and we enjoy sharing this in our teaching.
